WHISTLER NEIGHBOURHOODS - NICKLAUS NORTH

Many of us first came to the Whistler area because of the snow-covered mountains and all that crisp winter fun. But with each passing year the joys of summer begin to take ahold — the lakes, the patios, the lush forest bike rides.

So with summer winding down and the crisp mornings of autumn starting to appear, now is the time to squeeze in as many of those warm-weather afternoon joys as possible and this month’s featured neighbourhood is a great place to start. Here are:

Five things I love about Summer in Nicklaus North

1. Green Lake

Nicklaus North is a collection of homes and townhouses built along the Nicklaus North Golf Course on the southern shore of Green lake. Traditionally known as the coldest lake in Whistler (the green colour comes from silt in the glacial streams that feed the lake), Green lake is gaining popularity as our summers get hotter and longer. There’s a long sandy spit just a short walk away from the Nicklaus North homes that’s perfect for laying in the sun and building up the courage to jump in that chilly-yet-invigorating invigorating glacial water. (It’s refreshing, but cold enough to keep the crowds away.)

2. The Table Nineteen Patio

A true hidden gem, Table Nineteen is the restaurant in the Nicklaus North clubhouse and it consistently places top three on Whistler’s “Best Patio” lists. For views, however, it’s unparalleled. Looking north out over Green lake and up at Wedge mountain and the Armchair glacier, the Table Nineteen patio is spacious, quiet, and an ideal place to enjoy those final patio sessions of the summer. (The Tuna Poke bowl is also top notch).

3. The Mellow Vibe

Having a home on a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus is a huge bonus for lovers of the game but it also translates into a quiet peaceful feeling throughout the entire neighbourhood. Golf courses are known for their serenity and many of the homes in Nick North are owned by seasonal residents or weekenders. Which means peace and quiet more often than not.

4. Location, Location, Location

Nicklaus North is a few minutes North of Whistler Village which means you get to skip the (increasingly hectic) weekend and holiday traffic jams heading south. As well, Nick North is across the highway from the Meadow Park recreation centre (pool, ice rink, gym, squash courts), not far from the new shops and gas station at Rainbow, and has access to both the Whistler Valley Trail for easy car-free commuting, and the Lost Lake trail system for hiking, biking (and XC skiing when the snow falls. You can also ski or ice skate on Green Lake once the ice freezes thick enough.)

5. The Float Plane Dock

The commute from Vancouver is a lot faster, more scenic and more fun from the air and the floatplane dock on Green Lake makes an aerial commute that much easier. Of course, if life is really going well and you have your own float plane that works too.

Autumn in the Coast Mountains is amazing no matter where you so give me a call if you’d like to check out some homes anywhere in the Sea to Sky corridor.
